At Wattle Court, our goal is to take solid steps toward supporting a cleaner, greener future of home building.
Concrete slabs are fundamental to any residential build, but traditional materials — like polystyrene pods in ‘waffle’ slab construction — can come with environmental costs.
That’s why we’ve begun utilising new materials in our slabs, most notably on our recent project in Gympie, where we have used Biax pods which are 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. They have proven to be a practical solution that combines efficiency with sustainability.

A Clean and Green Slate for Every Site
Recyclable waffle pods are made from 100 per cent recycled plastic and they are 100 per cent recyclable at the end of their life cycle. This not only diverts waste from landfill but ensures the entire system is part of a closed-loop production process, minimising environmental impact during the manufacturing process.
With traditional waffle pods, the polystyrene sticks to the concrete and is impossible to separate. This means that all components of the slab – the polystyrene, the concrete, and even the steel – cannot be recycled. They also leach chemicals into the soil overtime and spread in the wind whenever a slab is demolished. Recyclable waffle pods solve all of these issues, helping us to care for our country well into the future.

Laying Down the Benefits
While the environmental benefits speak volumes, Biax pods also deliver a suite of practical advantages that directly benefit our projects:
- Clean and tidy sites: There’s no need to cut the pods to size, meaning our construction sites are free from landfill and polystyrene debris that can become wind-blown and pollute surrounding areas.
- Reducing long-term environmental impact: The absence of polystyrene also means that if the slab is demolished in the future, risk of non-decomposable debris polluting the environment is reduced.
- Space-saving: Their compact, stackable design means they require significantly less storage space on site, helping keep our builds tidy and efficient.
- Flexible design: Biax systems are suitable for any foundation layout, giving our team the versatility needed for a diverse range of builds.
- Lightweight and easy to handle: Each pod weighs under 2.5kg, making transportation and installation a breeze.
100% Australian Made and Owned
Supporting Australia’s manufacturing industry is at the heart of Wattle Court’s priorities. Biax pods are proudly manufactured in Sydney, which ensures high-quality control and alignment with Australian standards across the board.
