The team wanted to create a showpiece home that felt both connected to the coastal landscape and daringly different, capturing the essence of mid-century modern with a quirky twist. Drawing from a personal affinity for this style, they collaborated with Dani from The Make Haus, who helped them navigate the fine line between bold and balanced. Dani’s approach wasn’t to dictate but to guide, encouraging the team to push beyond their comfort zone. Her expertise brought a level of finesse to each element, resulting in a home where every space feels distinct yet cohesive.
The Pink Kitchen: Heart of the Home
The heart of this Palm Springs-inspired home is the kitchen and the starting point for the entire home’s design aesthetic. This design masterpiece combines retro vibes with modern functionality, inspired by iconic 60s pink bathrooms and kitchens. The team opted for a pinky terracotta hue called Umber from Cosentino’s Dekton range, a robust porcelain material that’s as beautiful as it is practical. Securing the first samples directly from the manufacturer, the team built their design around this unique shade, allowing the kitchen’s warm, inviting tones to flow seamlessly throughout the rest of the home.
Mid-Century Bar and Fireplace: Modern Entertaining with Nostalgic Flair
In a nod to the classic mid-century gentlemen’s cigar lounge, the team crafted an open, inviting bar area that serves as an entertainment centrepiece. With a rich, cigar-lounge and a welcoming fireplace nearby – courtesy of Real Flame – this space pays homage to its 60s roots while inviting everyone to gather.
Unique Detail
This home features a repeated “lazy arch” – the concept coined by Dani at The Make Haus — with each arch and doorway, shower frame, fireplace and more following the same gentle, curved radius, bringing a soft, timeless flow throughout the home.
A Spotlight on the Yellow Bathroom
Among the home’s most striking spaces is the yellow bathroom—a vibrant, custom creation that required a blend of creativity and technical expertise as it was as challenging as it is breathtaking. The bold, striped tile detail required careful precision, as each tile varied slightly in thickness. To overcome this, the walls feature a fully customised yellow microcement finish, sourced by Karmin at Mineral Fox. This high-quality Mercadier product, imported from France, was expertly applied by specialty renderers Bare by Macquarie. The microcement creates a seamless, single-tile effect that unifies the room’s textured, striped tile design. The result is a bold yet refined space that’s both waterproof and visually stunning, giving the bathroom a unique, Pinterest-worthy appeal that balances style with functionality.
Doors That Make a Statement
The home’s custom doors, supplied by Corinthian and installed by Canco, also reflect the team’s commitment to innovation and quality. The internal doors are Corinthian’s Manhattan range, a black-painted timber with glass infills that resemble steel frames but maintain a softer industrial modern edge. Paired with an oversized front door featuring a linear timber detail and an oversized round timber handle from the Elements range, these choices set a grand, welcoming tone that blends strength with sophistication.
A Collaboration Years in the Making
This home is not only a showcase of what Wattle Court Sydney North can achieve, but a testament to their lasting relationships with skilled craftsmen. From the luxury kitchen supplier they’ve worked with for over 30 years to the trusted joiners and air conditioning experts who have been with them for decades, every detail was shaped by a team that knows how to bring a vision to reality.
